Biology Syllabus
Remind code: @nvhsbio_ (<-- put your period number here)
Welcome to North Valleys High School! We are so excited you will be joining the Panther Family this year! You will find a description of expectations, procedures, and content information in this document.
Materials REQUIRED for this year:
Course Description:
This course covers a wide variety of life science topics including nature of science, ecology, cells, genetics and evolution. The goal of the course is to provide students with scientific principles, concepts and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze biological problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, to examine alternative solutions, and to develop and focus their own perspective.
Grading:
Students grades will be calculated according to the students’ mastery of each unit studied. It is extremely important that students keep up on classwork, labs, and studying in order to show mastery on each unit. Grades will NOT be rounded. It is the students’ responsibility to be aware of due dates and getting work in on time.
Semester Grading Scale:
Attendance, Tardies and Passes:
Attendance is absolutely necessary for success in high school. The Washoe County School District attendance policy states that a student must be in class 90% of the time in order to receive credit. In addition, the district will be enforcing a new policy this school year which indicates that if a student fails to complete their “absent work” on time (doctor/dentist/personal business/etc.), they will NOT be excused.
Classroom Behavior and Expectations:
Communication and Online Class Materials:
Grades are updated on Infinite Campus weekly. It is your responsibility to check for accuracy. All absent work is available on the class website. Please use Remind to communicate with me, or my email address.
I am excited for this new year and look forward to another great semester!
Sincerely,
Ms. Stewart
